Even CNN analysts are admitting that President Obama broke the law when he released five “high risk” Guantanamo Bay detainees without giving Congress notice at least 30 days in advance. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid appears to be the only member of Congress who was notified at all.
The law (2014’s National Defense Authorization Act) was passed overwhelmingly through the House and Senate and signed by President Obama himself. The language of the law stipulates that the administration determine that “the risk posed by the detainee will be substantially mitigated, and two: that the transfer is in the national security interests of the United States.”
Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has announced that there will be hearings on whether the President did indeed violate the law. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has threatened the President with impeachment if he tries such a move again. As a candidate…
